Don't know if this is intentional or not, but if you have any interest in mojave desert lo-fi glam rock sex-drenched boogiewoogie music, this is a deal you can't pass up!
I just found the brand new Eagles of Death Metal album "Heart On" at Amazon Downloads for only $3.99. Is this a mistake? The files are fairly hi-res (variable bit rate ranging 238 > 287 kbps) and more importantly, the music rocks like nobody's business. In a guilty pleasure, rev up your El Camino kind of way. The production here is more varied than prior 2 records (less raw) and even has -- don't want to call it a ballad -- let's just call it a mellow tune.
The EoDM are out on the road with Joey from Queens of the Stone Age on drums. Where's Babyduck? Here's wishing they'll get their own gig at the Fillmore instead of opening for lesser bands at the Warfield. The Next Arid Zone Over
Meanwhile... over in the Sonoran Desert, both Calexico and Giant Sand released new records in September. Both are the kind that you must "melt into", especially Giant Sand's "Provisions". Each song sets you up for the next one, getting deeper as it goes. Not the kind of songs to snazz up your shuffle mode --- "Provisions" is best contained in its own dry mood, and I like it better than Calexico's new "Carried To Dust." Hardly giving up on Calexico, but after the masterpiece "Feast Of Wire" and the bold direction of "Garden Ruin" this dust just isn't carrying the usual weight.
