The Crimson Pirate
Submitted by jack on June 4, 2007 - 2:16pm. Movies | KidfriendlyThis 1950's technicolor sendup of swashbucklers is very fun. We had a 6-year-old visiting us, and he's so inundated w/ modern entertainment we didn't think anything could please him, but we were up to the challenge. read more »
Our Hospitality
Submitted by jack on February 10, 2007 - 9:41am. Black-n-White | Movies | KidfriendlyWe just can't get enough of Buster Keaton! Much to the boys' delight, this 1923 film included extended train scenes (a predecessor to The General). Buster has inherited an "estate" in the country and also a long-running tradition in feud. read more »
The Iron Giant
Submitted by jack on February 10, 2007 - 9:31am. Movies | KidfriendlyThis movie amazes. Probably our favorite animated flick that's been made in decades. We especially like Dean, who is voiced by Harry Conick, Jr. Interesting to know this project was produced by Pete Townshend! We should also alert that there is some intense gunplay at the very end so this isn't for tiny tots. read more »
Johnny Cash - Riding The Rails
Submitted by jack on January 27, 2007 - 7:28pm. Movies | KidfriendlyIn 1974, the Man in Black made some television specials. Our boys (parents included) love this video of Johnny Cash taking us through the history of trains in America. He is always on the scene with his guitar, narrating and singing songs like "The City of New Orleans", "Casey Jones", and many more. read more »

The Kid
Submitted by jack on December 16, 2006 - 9:37am. Black-n-White | Movies | KidfriendlyWe are getting hopelessly addicted to Charlie Chaplin films. The man was a TOTAL genius, plain and simple. Not only is he the main actor, director, writer... he scores the music!! The Kid is more drama than slapstick, as the tramp raises an "orphan" and has to deal w/ the authorities. read more »
The Gold Rush
Submitted by jack on December 13, 2006 - 10:14am. Black-n-White | Movies | KidfriendlyThis is a great Charlie Chaplin silent film. We watched the version that has Chaplin himself narrating the parts in a sound version, which helped the kids enjoy it. Matter of fact... they were mesmerized! (we all were) This film is proof that some things get BETTER over time, and it makes you realize how braindead most of today's movies are. read more »
The Ant Bully
Submitted by jack on December 13, 2006 - 10:08am. Movies | KidfriendlyThe Ant Bully is a little better than most kiddie fare these days. The morale of the story comes in handy. The animation and the voices are fine, but why do so many kiddie flicks have to feature characters in endless peril? read more »
The General
Submitted by jack on November 24, 2006 - 1:20pm. Movies | KidfriendlyThe General is a Buster Keaton movie from 1927! If you are into trains, this is your film. This is often considered Buster's masterpiece. The DVD also included two earlier films... "The Playhouse" and "Cops". read more »
Make Mine Music
Submitted by jack on November 19, 2006 - 9:46pm. Movies | KidfriendlyVery decent Disney Collection centered on music. You will be amazed at what they could do combining live action and animation back in the 1940's. Add another point if you love Donald Duck. We like Mel read more »
